Persis Biryani Indian Grill
This restaurant is one of our staples in West Des Moines. We would normally get it to go and eat it at home, but we decided to really make it fun and eat there. It was a nice change up from eating at our counter top. The atmosphere was nice and the decor was different from what we had seen at other Indian restaurants. What was good, as always, was the food! We started off with an appetizer of Gobi 65 which was basically deep fried cauliflower. If you like cauliflower, I would recommend this for an appetizer. The spices on it were perfect and it was a great item to split. We then ended up splitting the Lamb curry. We normally would get the Chicken Tikka Masala, but we decided we would be adventurous that night. Glad we were. It was very yummy! I would also recommend getting the naan bread with it. It tends to really finish off the dish! After all of that food, we decided we needed to try out one of their desserts. We originally wanted to try out the mango custard, but they didn’t have that due to mango not being in season. We had our server give us a recommendation for one instead. He came back with the Gulab Jamun, which is dumplings of fresh condensed milk solids that are deep fried and soaked in sugar syrup and flavored with cardamom. I, personally, didn’t really care for it. I don’t do too well with some textures. My husband didn’t mind it though. Even though I didn’t really like the dessert doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy everything else. This restaurant will continue to be one that we will choose to eat at, whether that be dining in or ordering take out!
