A Weekend Getaway to Anacortes

We decided to take a weekend getaway to Anacortes as we had been going and hiking Deception Pass State Park quite a bit in the previous months. Therefore, we wanted to make it a weekend and explore more of the area.

We started off our adventure by taking the ferry from Mukilteo to Clinton. It was one of our first experiences on the ferry, and we decided this is the only way to go to Whidbey Island! Since we went up after work on a Friday, by the time we reached the island, it was dinner time.

We stopped in a cute little town on Whidbey Island, Langley, for dinner. The restaurant we ended up choosing was called, Savory, a restaurant! It was so good! We were able to get an outside seat which was right off of the water. They make their own pasta in house which made it even better! We enjoyed the Casarecce and the Mafalda Carbonera. For dessert, we had a custard with blueberries. It was a perfect dessert to finish the night.

We finally made it to the Majesty Inn and Spa where we were planning on staying for the weekend. It’s a historic building was built in the late 1800s that was later converted into a hotel. Our room ended up having a fireplace, that sadly we weren’t able to use as it was the middle of summer when we went. It also was a nice location in the downtown of Anacortes.

The next morning, we headed to Deception Pass State Park. We started off by Cranberry Lake and hiked the North beach up to the Deception Pass Bridge. From there, we crossed over and did the Goose Rock Summit Trail. It was incredible. The views were gorgeous, and we even got to a deer at the top!

When we got back to the bridge, we noticed in the parking lot that there was a pie on a stick stand called Cay Sal Pies. If you have never tried a pie on a stick, you are truly missing out. We really enjoyed the Key Lime one!

Highly recommend pie on a stick! We love their Key Lime flavor!

After our hiking, we decided to lounge a little bit on the West beach and enjoy some sun and delicious kettle corn! I think I may have forgotten to put on more sunscreen though, because I got fried! It was such a perfect day to just relax!

After all the hiking and relaxing, we got back to our hotel and got cleaned up for supper. Luckily, most of the restaurants were within walking distance, so we didn’t have to go far! As we walked around the town a little bit, we noticed there were some different artwork items on the walls of the buildings. These are all a part of the Anacortes Mural Project to try and bring in more people. I would say we really enjoyed it. There are some fictional and non-fictional characters that you can find. One of them is the city’s namesake, Annie Curtis, and her husband, Amos Bowman, the city founder. It truly is an incredible project and made it fun to walk around the area to see all of the different murals!

Most of the murals are done by Anacortes native, Bill Mitchell.

For dinner, we chose to eat at the Rockfish Grill. It was a nice little restaurant that even had live music playing the night we were there. We ended up starting off with Pretzels with Beer Cheese. They definitely gave us a lot of cheese for our two pretzels, but it was very tasty. For our main dish, I went with the Flaming Burger and fries. My husband decided to try the Fish Tacos. They were both very delicious dishes and were perfect after a day in the sun!

After dinner, we walked around a little bit before going back to our hotel and getting a better view from the top while enjoying dessert. I tried their rotating punch which was nice and refreshing. We also tried their creme brulee (sorry not pictured as I forgot before we ate it all). Being able to see the area from the roof was a perfect way to end our night.

Nice relaxing view after a long day.

The next morning, we had breakfast down at our hotel before heading back to Deception Pass State Park for another hike and heading home. We ended up having their Banana Bread French Toast with eggs and bacon and their Biscuits and Gravy. It was great fuel food for what we had going for the day.

We really enjoyed our time in Anacortes and cannot wait to be able to go back and explore more!
