Mean Girls on Broadway

My husband and I were able to go see Mean Girls on Broadway when it came to Des Moines. I had always enjoyed the movie and was very excited to see the differences and similarities that would come along with the Broadway show. Mean Girls is based off of a book written by Tina Fey who played the math teacher in the movie.

We both really enjoyed the show. It was nice to see how they incorporated the use of social media and new technology that has become more popular since the movie came out. It was nice that they really did keep a lot of the story line the same. They still utilized the “Burn Book” and the different “cliques” that occur in high school. I really enjoyed all of the songs that they did, and my husband and I definitely had a few chuckles!

After the show, we have the opportunity to be invited to the after party where we were able to meet the cast. It was very awesome getting to know them. I even got to sit with “the Plastics”! They were all very nice and made me feel like I was a part of their group. It was interesting talking to them about the show. One of them had gotten the movie for their niece who was about high school age. She didn’t seem to like the movie because she didn’t believe that her school had any “cliques”. We all pretty much agreed that if you believe that, then you are either oblivious to the issues or you are part of the problem. It made me feel good knowing that I wasn’t the only one who had felt like that back in high school.

If you get the chance to go see the musical, please go! It was so funny and entertaining. I would highly recommend it to everyone!
