A Trip to See Friends
My husband and I always enjoy getting a chance to travel to Milwaukee and visit our dear friends! We always have such a wonderful time trying out new places to eat and sharing experiences with them. This time around was no different. We were also able to celebrate my husband and our friend’s birthdays, which are 15 days apart with a wonderful night in have steak tacos and yummy desserts from Simma’s Bakery. They are known for their cheesecake, so our friends got an assortment of different ones. They also had some other desserts, so they got some of them as well. We got to try pumpkin cheesecake, lemon poppyseed cheesecake, carrot cake cheesecake, Oreo cake ball, key lime tart, lemon bar, and their award-winning cheesecake that is a cheesecake with a chocolate cake bottom, a thin layer of raspberry filling and covered with a blanket of chocolate ganache. Everything was so delicious. I think my husband and I decided our favorite was the lemon poppyseed cheesecake with the key lime tart in a close second.
The next day, we went on a walk next to Lake Michigan and got to enjoy its beauty! We then broke up into girls and boys and the girls got to go shopping at the outlet mall! It is always nice to spend some quality time with my friend! Later that night, we were able to go to the Historic Third Ward for supper. We went and ate at the MKE Ale House. We were able to sit outside facing the water which was fun to see all of the different boats going through. We each got a different kind of sandwich and drink to try. My husband and I got the BBQ Pork Sandwich and California Burger and split the Booyah Apricot Saison beer. Our friends got the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich and the Cowboy’s Demise and a Mojito Me Crazy and MKE Lager to drink. The only one that we had an issue with was the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich. The chicken seemed to be overcooked and was hard to eat. Other than that, the food was delicious! The service was pretty good and it was easy to have a conversation. After dinner, we went walking around the area. Before heading down, we had decided that we wanted to try out the new electric scooters that you can rent. We had downloaded the “Lime” app so that way we could go ahead and do it. It took a little while to try and find enough for our group. We ended up taking a break from looking for scooters and went and got ice cream at the Purple Door. Our friends had heard good things about it, and we knew we were ready for dessert! We did end up finding two scooters that we ended up taking them to a parking lot nearby, since driving on the road was a little scary. We had a nice time out and about with friends.
Our last full day there, we ended up starting our day by going back to the Historic Third Ward and got brunch at the Sweet Diner. There was a little bit of a wait, so we decided to make our annual trip to the Market. It is always so much fun walking around there and seeing all of the different stands. We even got to try macaroons! Finally, we were able to go eat brunch! It was our friends’ daughter’s favorite place because they put flowers in the butter. She thought it was really neat! We ended up ordering the Classic Eggs Benedict, Meatatarian Skillet Bowl, Chilaquiles Skillet Bowl, and the Crème Brulee Style French Toast. Everything was delicious! The only complaint we had there was that our server seemed to never be around. We understand that they were a little busier on a Sunday morning, but not being able to flag him down at all was a little frustrating. It was also a little louder in there which made it a little more difficult to hear each other. All in all, the experience was great. Would recommend this place to anyone. We finished the day with a nice relaxing night in and put some pizza in the smoker. It was so yummy!
We always have such a wonderful time visiting and it never gets easier to leave. We will definitely be going back and will be excited to experience even more while we are there.
